Featuring Adele Diamond, PhD, Angela Duckworth, PhD, and Deborah J. Leong, PhD.
Adele Diamond is the Canada Research Chair Professor of Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of British Columbia. Her work integrates developmental, cognitive, neuroscience, and molecular genetic approaches to examine fundamental questions about the development of the cognitive control abilities that rely on a region of the brain known as 'prefrontal cortex' and has changed medical practice worldwide for the treatment of phenylketonuria (PKU) and for the type of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) without hyperactivity.
Angela Duckworth is currently the Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Pennsylvania. She is the recipient of the K01 Mentored Research Scientist Development Award to study self-control from the perspectives of economics and psychology. In the past she has acted as a research associate and math teacher, and she also founded the Summerbridge Cambridge Academic Enrichment Program in 1992. Deborah J. Leong is professor emerita of psychology at Metropolitan State College of Denver. Her interests include the application of the Vygotskian approach to early childhood education and authentic assessment. She is co-developer with Elena Bodrova of the Tools of the Mind Project, which was chosen as an exemplary educational innovation by the International Bureau of Education, UNESCO, United Nations in 2001.
