Research
I am activly involved in both developing and evaluating interventions for addictive problems. I have support from NIDA for two reserach efforts: 1)Project STARRS, an evaluation of brief interventions for homeless adolescents, and 2)MI Training, an evaluation of two methods of professional training in clinical techniques used in addiction treatment. I have also recently participated in Project COMBINE, an 11-site NIAAA sponsored trial of two medications and two behavioral treatments for alcohol problems.
I am the Director of Training within the Washington Node of NIDA's Clinical Trials Network, housed at the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Institute at the University of Washington, and the Director of the Interdisciplinary Fellowship in Addiction Treatment at the VA Medical Center in Seattle.
