Spring 2008
- Jennifer Wang, Clara Wilkins, and Lori Wu Malahy each received National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowships. Graduate Research Fellowships provide three years of support for graduate study. Of the 20 NSF fellowships awarded in Social Psychology this year, the UW received more than any other university. Jennifer's advisors are Janxin Leu and Yuichi Shoda. Clara and Lori are advised by Cheryl Kaiser.
- Eric Pederson and Keren Lehavot have been selected as a recipients of the 2008 American Psychological Association Student Travel Award. The purpose of this $300 award is to help them travel to the APA Convention in Boston to present their research. Eric's advisor is Mary Larimer. Keren's advisor is Jane Simoni.

Winter 2008
- Congratulations to Serap Yigit who was awarded a 2008 Elsevier/Vision Research Travel Award (Vision Sciences Society Student Travel Award) for the 2008 Annual VSS Meeting in Naples in May. Her research was judged to be one of the top 20 student research projects. She is a 1st year Cognitive student with John Palmer.
- Clara Wilkins received a Clara Mayo Award from the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues to support her research on ethnic minorities' reactions to positive feedback from Whites. This grant program supports research on aspects of sexism, racism, or prejudice. Clara works in Cheryl Kaiser's lab.
- Lindsey Sterling was awarded the Autism Speaks mentor-based fellowship, a two-year fellowship to support her dissertation. She is a 5th year Child Clinical student who was working with Geri Dawson.

- Ursula Whiteside has received the 2007 Society for a Science of Clinical Psychology (SSCP) dissertation grant award. Congratulations! Her advisor is Mary Larimer.
- Lindsey Sterling was awarded the Autism Speaks mentor-based fellowship—a 2 year fellowship to support her dissertation. Great job and congratulations! Her advisor is Geraldine Dawson.
- Clara Wilkins was chosen as a Society for Personality and Social Psychology (SPSP) Diversity Fund Graduate Travel Award Recipient for the 2008 Conference. She also received a SPSSI Clara Mayo Award to support her research on ethnic minorities. Outstanding job! Her advisor is Cheryl Kaiser.
- Emily Neuhaus received the Smadar Levin award for making the most outstanding poster presentation at the annual meeting of the Society for Research in Psychopathology, October 4-6, Iowa City. Her advisor is Ted Beauchaine. http://www.psychopathology.org/
- Susan Faja has been selected as a recipient of a 2007 American Psychological Association Dissertation Research Award. This award of $1,000 is to be used to help offset her dissertation research costs! Her advisor is Geraldine Dawson.
- Jennifer Wang was awarded a Jacob K. Javits Fellowship which provides tuition and a stipend for up to four years. This program provides fellowships to students of superior academic ability—selected on the basis of demonstrated achievement, financial need, and exceptional promise—to undertake study at the doctoral and Master of Fine Arts level in selected fields of arts, humanities, and social sciences. Summer 2007
- Renay Cleary received the Division 43 (Family Psychology) Student Research Award for the research she presented at the APA convention in San Francisco based on her first year project titled "Family Level Emotion Socialization and Children's Comfort with Emotional Expression." In addition she will have a write-up of her research published in their newsletter, "The Family Psychologist."
- Melanie Colon presented her poster Natal Dispersal of Mariana Crow, American Ornithologists' Union Conference August 2007. She also received a Mensa Education and Research Foundation Scholarship.
- Susanne Herz was a nominee for University of California San Francisco Chancellor’s Award for Community Service. She is also co-founder of the House of Stone Charitable Organization (est. 2000) with her husband. This year they raised close to $30,000, held 4 educational events in the United States and funded small grants totalling over $17,000 to community-initiated and supported programs for orphans and vulnerable children in Zimbabwe. http://houseofstone.org/

Spring 2007
- Clara Wilkins received the Ford Foundation Pre-doctoral Fellowship. The predoctoral fellowships provide three years of support for individuals engaged in graduate study leading to a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.). Predoctoral fellowships will be awarded in a national competition administered by the National Research Council (NRC)
- Ty Lostutter is in his first year (2006-2009) as principal investigator for a grant from NIDA (National Institute of Drug Abuse). He is a first year national fellowship recipient.
- Keren Lehavot received an award from the Mensa Education and Research Foundation. The U.S. scholarship program is very large in the geographic area it covers (usually about 75 percent of the country), the number of applications (4,000 to 6,000 in recent years). The program bases its awards on essays written by the applicants.
- Jennifer Wang received a student travel award for the Society for Personality and Social Psychology (SPSP) National Conference in Memphis, TN.

Winter 2007
- Ursula Whiteside received a UW Alcohol and Drug Abuse Institute grant. The grant is titled "Beyond BASICS: Enhancing Interventions for College Students Drinking to Cope." Advisor Mary Larimer is the co-Investigator.
- Renay Cleary, Ty Lostutter, and Tami Rigterink all received the APA student travel award. The department was able to nominate three applicants this year and all three were selected. Congratulations!
