Research
For decades, Psychology Department faculty have made important discoveries about the mind, brain, and behavior. In addition, our large clinical research group continues to develop innovative treatment programs to help adults and children overcome psychopathology and behavioral disorders. There are 3 main organizational structures to research within the Department:
(1) Areas.
The Areas structure graduate education and training and are centered on specific sub-disciplines within psychology.
- Animal Behavior
- Behavioral Neuroscience
- Clinical Psychology
- Child Clinical
- Cognition and Perception
- Developmental
- Social and Personality
- Quantitative Psychology
(2) Interdisciplinary Research Initiatives (IRIS).
IRIS’s are thematically organized around a specific targeted issue or topic and span multiple disciplines. They often have translational or outreach components.
- Addictive Behaviors
- Child and Family Well-Being
- Cognition, Brain and Behavior
- Diversity Science
- Global Issues in Psychology
(3) Centers and Institutes.
When a research topic expands beyond the domain of the Department, a Center or Institute is established to draw upon expertise from across the UW campus and Seattle community.
