Project Description:

Ideal for social service students who are interested in gaining hands on experience. The position is mentored by experienced Activity Assistant with our Adult Day Services Department. Learn how to fulfill the needs of these formerly isolated seniors and provide them vital resources for a healthy and enjoyable life. Work: This position is responsible for developing and providing activity programming for persons with cognitive impairments in both the Adult Day Health Program as well as for the residents of the Assisted Living program. You will also develop or improve your skills through hands on training in a multi cultural work environment.

Skills / Experience Preferred:

The incumbent needs to be able to follow through established volunteer orientation program, particularly focusing on volunteer skills to assist with programs for persons with dementia. * Design 2 programs daily for persons with cognitive impairment. * Identify and integrate all Assisted Living residents past interests into the activity plan. * Ensures that the activities are culturally appropriate at the level of cognitive impairment for the needs of residents/clients. Provides ongoing communication with residents and families about events and programs. * Participate in volunteer orientations. * Assist in the volunteer component of ADH and Assisted Living activity program. Lead structured groups and provide support to staff, and encourage residents and clients to attend groups and activities. * Assist residents in structured group outings to community and cultural activities. * Adhere to agency organizational values, standards, and policy and procedures. * Meet necessary agency and state training requirements. * Enhance own knowledge by attending related workshops and courses relating to cognitive impairment. * Demonstrate excellent customer service skills when relating to staff, residents, volunteers, and the public. * Utilize written communication skills in order to design plans and schedules. * Support mission, policy, and procedures of agency. * Bilingual in Cantonese, Mandarin or Korean, preferred.
