Short Project Description

Describing the vocalizations of a fascinating group of closely related tropical bird species (found in Central and South America). We are interested in the evolutionary consequences of species interactions, and how vocalizations facilitate and/or are shaped by those interactions.

Other: The bulk of the work initially will be in sound analysis. We will train you on sound analysis software and you will be editing and quantifying various parameters of previously recorded bird calls. There may be some opportunity for video analysis of behavior as well. Later we will be quantifying plumage color using Photoshop. There are other facets to the work too. We will try to expose you to as many different tasks as possible, especially if you are able to commit more time.

Skills / Experience Preferred

Attention to detail and a sense of responsibility for the project are a must. However, no particular skills are required. We will train you. If you have experience with Excel, Photoshop, or other software packages, that could be a plus. We will try to figure out ways to use any specialized skills you bring to the job.
