Learning Goals for Psychology 420: Drugs and Behavior

Course Learning Goals:
  1. To gain experience with searching the scientific journals for specific drug topics and collecting a variety of resources for information concerning drugs. To be able to clearly and fully reference these materials (assessed by presentations and annotated bibliography).
  2. To critically evaluate sources of information whether they are studies in scientific journals or summaries in the popular press and to formulate a critique of each of these sources. To appreciate the limitations of our knowledge about pharmacology and behavioral pharmacology and the ambiguity associated with those limitations (assessed by presentations).
  3. To distill the important information and present a concise summary of the issues in an annotated bibliography of your references and a class presentation (assessed by annotated bibliography).
  4. To formulate written and oral arguments based on scientific evidence (assessed by presentation).
  5. To participate in thoughtful and critical discussions about the material presented in class (assessed by presentation questions and discussion participation).
  6. To utilize your classmates as a resource by actively posting questions and responses on the discussion board (assessed by e-post and presentation questions).
