UW’s preeminent Clinical Psychology program is dedicated to reducing the burden of mental and behavioral disorders.


University of Washington’s Clinical Psychology program, ranked among the top programs in the country, is dedicated to reducing the burden of mental and behavioral disorders and optimizing human potential. Our program is nationally renowned for its scientific productivity, currently generating over $6 million in grant funding for research. Current research promotes:

  • Alleviation of the effects of trauma and anxiety to reduce mental health disparities
  • Lower suicide risk in vulnerable populations
  • Positive development and well-being of children who experience disadvantage

As a charter member of the Academy of Psychological Clinical Science and fully accredited by the American Psychological Association, our highly competitive program trains top students to make innovate contributions to clinical psychological science and to utilize and disseminate evidence-based procedures to alleviate psychological distress. Moreover, our training program is a leader in training of ethnic minority clinical scientists.

Graduate students have an immediate impact on clients in need. Under the supervision of licensed psychologists, students provide therapeutic services to community members with psychological disorders, most of whom are low-income, through the Psychological Services and Training Center (The Clinic ). With over 2000 client sessions annually, students and clinicians provide mental health services for a diverse population in our community.
